Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about Zakat calculation, privacy, currencies, and common questions.

Do I need an account?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Is my data saved?

Your settings and calculation history are stored locally in your browser and can be cleared anytime.

How often are prices updated?

Prices are fetched on demand and cached for up to 4 hours when live data cannot be reached.

Does this calculator include Zakat al-Fitr?

No. 2point5 calculates Zakat al-Mal (wealth Zakat) only. Zakat al-Fitr is a separate obligation.

Can I pay Zakat in installments throughout the year?

Yes. Many scholars permit advance payment (Ta'jeel). You can pre-pay during the year, then reconcile on your annual Zakat date.

Can I deduct debts?

Yes. Most methods deduct current liabilities or the next-year installment, not entire long-term balances.

See debt rules in the Guide

Can I give Zakat to family members?

Often yes for relatives in need (for example siblings, uncles, aunts), but not to those you are already financially obliged to support (such as parents, children, and spouse).

Do I pay Zakat on my house or car if I am trying to sell them?

Personal-use assets are generally exempt. Assets held with clear resale intent can become trade inventory and may be zakatable.

What if I missed previous years?

Calculate and pay for each missed year where you were above Nisab. Use your best estimate and settle the amount as soon as possible.

How do I calculate Zakat on stocks and crypto?

Use market value on your Zakat date. Stocks can be treated differently by intent (trading vs long-term), while crypto is commonly treated as fully zakatable.

What if my wealth goes above and below Nisab during the year?

It depends on method. The common Hanafi approach checks start/end of year; other schools may require continuous Nisab above the threshold.

Is personal gold jewelry I wear daily exempt?

What currency should I calculate in?

Use the currency of your actual assets/liabilities. If holdings are mixed, convert everything to one base currency on your Zakat date.

Do I pay Zakat on children's savings?

Many scholars require it if the child is above Nisab; some differ by madhhab. Follow your local scholarly guidance.

Are loans owed to me included?

Usually yes for receivables likely to be recovered. Disputed or unlikely loans are often deferred until recovered.

See receivables guidance

How is 2point5 different from other calculators?

2point5 makes assumptions explicit, exposes key fiqh toggles (Nisab basis, debt method, jewelry treatment), and links each topic to deeper scholarly context.
